  • This decor panels was upcycled from girl's crepe silk furisode - festive type of kimono.

This kimono was originally a long-sleeved kimono for adults, but it was later folded on waist and shoulders to fit a girl, and it seems that a girl around the age of 7 was the last to wear it. It also had a string attached to it so the child could move easily wearing it. This kimono, which has seen a long history over generations, was no longer used as clothing because of deep stains. I made it with the hope that someone in the next generation will enjoy it as an interior work.

It may be its' pattern that kept this kimono alive for so long. The chrysanthemum flower, which keeps fresh for a long time after being cut, is a symbol of longevity and a lucky pattern in Japan.

    Pattern: chrysanthemum
    Period: Taisho period (1912-1926)
    Size: diameter 25cm
