This canvas was upcycled from a black obi belt.

The pattern is carefully been woven by hands. It reflects light depending on the angle, so it looks a little bit different in different time of the day.

<<<Period/Story>>>

Obi used for this item was made in early Showa period (around 1930ies).

This obi was kept in a wardrode for long years before we upcycled it (its' good-condition parts) into an art panel.

<<<Explanation and meaning of pattern>>>

Chrysanthemum is a symbol of high rank, longlivety and safety. It is used in Japan emperor's family crest. Chrysanthemum is often used in decorating houses for New Year and other festive occasions in Japan. It has a strong stem and lives long even after being cut, so is considered a symbol of long life.

Water swirls are called "Korin water" by the name od Edo-period artist who invented this pattern - Ogata Korin. This mild pattern of S-shaped lines and circles inside symbolises eturnity as water flaws eturnally in this pattern. Running water is always clear and doesn't hold any pollutions, so it also symbolises serenity and pureness.

The panel can be displayed on a table, etc.

You will need tacks or nails to hang it on the wall.
