A gorgeous ensemble made from 2 separate black tomesode kimono. Did you notice that both of them have Kasamatsu (pine) pattern, but each shows different seasons?

We hand-picked 2 different antique kimonos to make this ansamble look like a tree-piece set.

<<<Period/Story>>>

The kimonos that became the basis for this panel set are all kimonos from the early Showa era, a type called black tomesode, a type worn by married ladies.

<<<Explanation and meaning of pattern>>>

Both panels represent pine hand-painting called yuzen. The pine tree lives for long, and longevity is called ``the age of the pine tree'' in Japan, it is also a symbol of perpetual youth and longevity. This pattern is believed to bring luck to its' owner.

Both panels are hand-painted Yuzen-dyed works. There are two types of yuzen dyeing, “hand-painted yuzen” and “stencil yuzen”. Based on the rough sketch drawn on paper, each brush stroke is colorfully hand-painted onto the white cloth.

The first panel uses gold thread, the second one has a beautiful embroidery with golden threads, making it a very luxurious set.
